When leadership fails themselves they fail their team

When you read this article on when leadership fails, don’t hate me, be challenged and excited, make a decision and move forward.

Sometimes, as leaders we become very complacent with what we need to do to gain momentum and continue growth in our business. It all becomes so nice and comfortable, especially when we reach a certain level and we start making money and unfortunately when this happens is precisely when leadership fails in the network marketing industry.

It would be so nice to live in our little euphoric world where everyone gets started and needs very little to know leadership at all. These enigmas of individuals would get started and be off and running, creating their own momentum in an industry they have never been in before or had any success in. They would know all of the scripts, have all of the contacts and know how to do a presentation straight away. They wouldn’t need an upline leader or any support because all of the knowledge was somehow magically instilled into them at the start. Believing this will happen, is when leadership fails.

Some leaders become comfortable earning an extra $1,000 per month, others an extra $3,000 per month and still others an extra $10,000 per month and some even $100,000 per month. I know this to be true because I have become comfortable at two of those levels, the $1,000 per month and the $10,000 per month and it is easy to do. Yes I am saying that it is when I failed as a leader…

That income starts to pay those extra bills, gives you a nice lifestyle because the stress is removed and you can sit back and relax, or so we think.

The problem is that the world doesn’t operate like that due to a simple little word that has an evil outcome and it is “inflation”. Personally I think inflation is from the devil and so is “deflation” but that is for another time.

So if you just stay at the $1,000 per month level for a few years (and yes people do do this) you will find that what you could buy and do with that money each year gets eroded, and so you need to make more.

I know my headline seems so harsh, “When Leadership Fails” however I just want to give you the truth. Leadership fails when they believe that they “Have made it” that they are at the top and that there is nothing more they can do. But this just isn’t true. You just have to teach people to do what you did. Your not unique, if you did it, if you were prepared to make the sacrifice and do the work, others will as well.

One of the most amazing things we receive in network marketing as leaders is the trust and hopes of our team. When leadership fails, we let these people down and we impact them and the chances they have of making their dreams.

They look at us to guide and direct them through the obstacles that come up. They trust that we will be in the trenches with them and not just with them, but out in front taking new ground and shouting those words “follow me team”. When leadership fails, this doesn’t happen. But when leadership stands up and says CHARGE magic happens.

Unfortunately we see more and more leaders become trainers…they are no longer in the trenches, instead they shout orders from the side lines thinking that it is enough to have done it years ago and that people should follow that experience and pay for it. This is another time when leadership fails. Yes it is ok to become a trainer, but there is nothing like following someone who is actually doing it, who is actually chasing a dream themselves and still sharpening their skills. There is an edge to their voice, an excitement to their very being and a skip in their step. They are not waiting, they are moving!

While, yes I do believe there is a place for outside trainers, the is a greater place for leaders that are still building. There is nothing like being part of a team where the leader is still doing all of the activity of the team. Prospecting, Recruiting, Getting new people started and training etc etc etc. This is not when leadership fails, this is when leadership excels. I am proud of the leaders we have in our team because we have many many leaders who lead by example!

There is a sharpness that they have over the person who hasn’t been doing it for years, they have a clarity and an understanding of what works and what doesn’t.

So today, I want to speak to the leaders.

You have been given a great gift and a great responsibility. You are REQUIRED to help those people in your team achieve their dreams. They didn’t join your company, they joined your team, they joined you. This is not your time to be counted in the group when leadership fails, this is time you were counted in the group where leaders excelled.

While you are sitting around and directing from the side lines, you are not truly helping them. You are on the sidelines where it is safe, but they don’t need you to be there, they need you to be in the battle with them, they need to see how you handle the challenges, the ups and downs and how you overcome them!

Give them someone to follow, someone to imitate and someone to respect.

Every moment you are shouting orders from the sides but not actually doing anything, is another moment that respect is lost and dreams are given up on and when leadership fails.

Ask yourself this question, the people you got started, have they achieved THEIR dreams yet or are they still trying to work it all out.

Would they achieve them quicker if you were there with them, doing the thing that we say we will do when a person comes on board, “personally mentoring them”?

God showed me a vision one time of what He requires from me and my future. He didn’t show me a picture of a general, He showed me a picture of myself as a Sargent, someone who is called to raise up leaders and develop them in the front lines, not someone to bark the orders from the command centre tent and I would take a guess that if God was to show you a vision of yourself and your future, even though you would want to be a general, He is the General, He would show you as the leader in the field guiding and directing the troops.

Your complacency means your teams dreams would be destroyed but your activity means they could be fulfilled. Be the leadership that excels, we have seen enough of when leadership fails.

The evil one wants nothing more than for you to do nothing however the Glorious One wants nothing more than for you to take the people He has given you and shout CHARGE and FOLLOW ME!!!

You are not meant to be complacent and/or comfortable. He is calling us forward, so let’s move together.
